The Difficult Road Past Worry -- New Novel Tells of Man Struggling with Hurdles to Adopt a Child

BOSTON, December 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Jack and Denise Skeffington want to adopt a child. In a touching novel, author Adam Vigor tells of the obstacles this couple encounters in the adoption process and Jack's inner turmoil in Skeffington and the Vamp (now available through 1stBooks).

Jack is a hardworking highway worker. His wife Denise is an art teacher at a local community college in their small town of Bloomfield, Maine, and is an avid painter with a slight superiority complex. All in all, they are a thriving couple whose world would be complete with the adoption of a child. They seek to adopt a charming young girl, Caroline, but encounter unforeseen problems that send Jack into inner turmoil.

Caroline lives at Mother's Moustache, a center for talented youth looking to be adopted. The center is run by the frustrated and bitter Ms. Beaumont, who believes Jack is the wrong parent for Caroline. Not only is this matriarch creating problems for Jack, but he also finds out that Caroline is the daughter of Jack's platoon companion, who was killed in Vietnam. To top it off, Jack also has to deal with his mother, who suffers from dementia.

Despite all the conflict, Jack's world slowly comes into focus, giving him the clarity and harmony he desires.

Vigor, a New England native, was educated in Louisiana and Kansas. Skeffington and the Vamp is his first book.
