Airvana, Inc. Recognized with 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award for Its Innovative All-IP 1xEV-DO Technology

CDMA Development Group Honors Airvana as an Industry Leader with the Network Technology Innovation Award

MIAMI, Dec. 9, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Airvana, Inc. (www.airvananet.com), a provider of All-IP, third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1xEV-DO infrastructure, today announced the company has been honored as the recipient of the Network Technology Innovation award by the CDMA Development Group (CDG). The award was presented yesterday during the 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Awards ceremony at the CDMA Americas Congress being held this week at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Airvana was honored for its contributions to the development of global CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks. The award, which honors the accomplishments of leading companies and individuals, was presented to Airvana by Oliver Valente, president of CDG and vice president, technology development, Sprint and Perry LaForge, executive director of CDG during an evening ceremony.

"All of us at Airvana bet our careers that CDMA broadband wireless data would take off," said Randy Battat, president and CEO, Airvana, Inc. "It's an honor to be recognized by our chosen industry to be making a contribution."

"As CDMA2000 1xEV-DO continues to provide unparalleled global access to 3G wireless services, we are proud to acknowledge the efforts of those who have helped in its development," said LaForge. "The CDG congratulates Airvana and applauds their dedication to the advancement of 3G wireless technologies."

Airvana's All-IP CDMA2000 1xEV-DO infrastructure enables carriers to deliver "always on" mobile wireless services over wireless networks at broadband speeds, and at a lower cost per bit than any other 3G technology. In 2003, networks based on Airvana's All-IP 1xEV-DO infrastructure have been deployed in North America, Latin America and Asia.

The peak data rates of Airvana's CDMA2000 1xEV-DO infrastructure can reach up to 2.4 Megabits per second (Mbps), with average per user sustained rates of 600 Kbps. Subscribers can connect to a 1xEV-DO network using a 1xEV-DO mobile phone or by connecting their mobile phone or PC card to a laptop or PDA. Users experience speeds comparable to cable and DSL services and are able to use all popular business, information and entertainment applications without any modifications. The technology can be added to existing CDMA2000 base stations with a simple channel card upgrade or layered on existing CDMA, TDMA and GSM networks.

Airvana provides wireless carriers with end-to-end All-IP radio access infrastructure based on the 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO high-speed mobile standard. Since both IP and 1xEV-DO technologies are optimized for data, Airvana's infrastructure dramatically improves the economics of deploying high-speed mobile Internet services.

The company will demonstrate applications such as Push-to-Talk, VoIP and wireless broadband Internet access over a 1xEV-DO network at the CDMA Americas Congress.
