Implats appoints two new non-executive directors

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Dec. 9, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd (Implats) (Pink Sheets:IMPUY) (Other OTC:IMPAF) (JSE:IMP) (LSE:IMPLA) (ADRS:IMPUY) has announced the appointment of Sifiso Dabengwa and Lex van Vught as additional independent, non-executive directors to the Implats board with effect from 1 January 2004.

This is in line with the group's move to enhance its corporate governance, to promote the process of transformation, to ensure that successors exist for key board positions, and to increase the range of skills and experience at the board's disposal.

Sifiso Dabengwa, B Sc (Elect Eng), MBA, EDP is currently the managing director of MTN SA. His key responsibilities are to develop and implement strategic direction, ensure profitable growth and meet required performance targets. His major achievements have been to maintain and improve the group's market position, despite increased competition and demand for resources. Prior to joining MTN, he spent several years at Eskom, where as a member of Eskom's management board he was responsible for all of the organisation's distribution operations, including sales, customer service, marketing, engineering and technology. During his time at Eskom, he was also responsible for the planning and implementation of the national electrification programme, one of the most successful projects of the Reconstruction and Development Plan.

Lex van Vught, B.Sc (Hons) (Chemistry), B.Com, spent the major part of his career at Chemserve Limited and the greater part of that time was spent on the board and as CEO. During his tenure he oversaw the company through a period of consistent and sustained growth, largely a result of acquisitions. He was subsequently appointed managing director of AECI Limited, Chemserve's holding company. Here, he was responsible for significantly transforming and streamlining that company. He is currently the Chairman of Chemserve and a non-executive director of AECI. He is also on the boards of Altron Limited and Tiger Brands Limited.
