Emulex LP10000DC HBA Achieves Solaris Ready Certification from Sun Microsystems

Emulex HBA's Robust Feature Set Offers Solaris Customers High Performance Connectivity

COSTA MESA, Calif., December 11, 2003 (PRIMEZONE)-- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced that its LightPulse LP10000DC PCI-X HBA has achieved Solaris(tm) Ready Certification from Sun Microsystems, Inc (NASDAQ:SUNW) that will include support for the Solaris(tm) 9 Operating System (OS), SPARC and x86 platforms. The Solaris Ready Certification serves as the gateway for interoperability with Sun's Solaris OS, and provides customers with a recognizable symbol for tested and approved Solaris solutions from third-party providers.

Sun's Solaris OS is the foundation for Sun systems, offering consistent computing across entire network server environments. The Solaris Ready Certification process involves rigorous testing evaluating the product's interoperability, platform support, Solaris platform compliance, ease-of-installation, driver compatibility and product documentation.

"Sun has worked closely with Emulex to ensure its market-leading LightPulse family of HBAs are fully compatible with the Solaris operating system, for SPARC and x86 solutions, and we are pleased the Emulex LP10000DC has passed the rigorous testing requirements to achieve Solaris Ready Certification," said Patric Chang, director, Market Development Engineering, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "The low latency and high throughput of Emulex HBAs provide superior network performance, allowing them to operate seamlessly throughout the intensive Solaris Ready Certification testing process."

Emulex's new LP10000DC Fibre Channel PCI-X HBA can dramatically improve solution integration and footprint, while delivering substantial improvements in I/O performance. The Emulex LP10000 family of PCI-X HBAs are fully backwards compatible with previous generations of the company's market leading HBAs, enabling customers to effortlessly migrate to higher performance solutions while also allowing for simplified integration into existing storage area networks (SANs).

"Sun Microsystems' commitment to providing enterprise network computing platforms validates their work with Emulex HBAs, and helps enable high performance solutions for Solaris environments," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "Emulex will continue working with Sun Microsystems to offering industry-leading connectivity solutions for its enterprise-class SAN solutions."

The Emulex family of HBAs offers firmware-based architecture and operating system driver compatibility across Emulex's entire HBA product line, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path, reduced management complexities and also ensures a lower total cost of ownership. The LP10000DC PCI-X HBA is fully compatible with drivers that support Emulex's centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which incorporates driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console.
