INTELLIscribe 3.1 Print Client Software Improving TCP/IP Windows Printing

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho , Dec. 16, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- INTELLIscribe(r) 3.1, the latest release from Brooks Internet Software, Inc. (Brooks), adds a variety of usability and performance improvements, notably in support for SLP printers and improved printing speed.

Support for printers advertised by Service Location Protocol (SLP) has been added to version 3.1. SLP printers are automatically recognized and immediately available for printing. Users no longer need to know the hostnames of network printers. Setup has been optimized to make SLP printers easy to use, whether the network is dynamic or relatively static.

Printing speed has been improved again in INTELLIscribe. The previous version was significantly faster than earlier versions and the Windows(r) LPR; the new INTELLIscribe is up to twice as fast for large files, and all job sizes should see increased speed. Current INTELLIscribe users have confirmed this result; one reported that a print job which used to take over three hours completed in fifteen minutes with INTELLIscribe, with no other changes to their network or other processing.

The INTELLIscribe user interface is also improved. The user can select print jobs then choose a destination to reprint them to. INTELLIscribe now provides the ability to specify the number of times a print job is retried before the destination fails.

"INTELLIscribe is an important link between Windows printing on the user's desktop and the world of intelligent devices, large capacity printers and non-Windows printing," said Dave Brooks, president of Brooks Internet Software. "It has been very gratifying to us to see INTELLIscribe's increased acceptance in this key segment of the networking business."

The INTELLIscribe software is a TCP/IP print client for Windows NT/2000/XP and 95/98/ME platforms supporting the LPR/LPD protocol and HP JetDirect(r) printers. INTELLIscribe has been tested with many print systems including: AS/400; UNIX platforms such as Linux, Sun Solaris, and SCO UNIX; hardware print servers from Hewlett-Packard Co., Lexmark International, Inc., and many others; and PC print servers including RPM Remote Print Manager(r).
