Poems For Life -- Human and Animal Interactions Focus on New Poetry Compilation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Dec. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In a lighthearted book of poetry about a wide range of human experiences, Leland Harlan writes about his interactions with other people, the joy of connecting with animals and the simple pleasures in life in his new poetry compilation, Me? Ow! And other poems...by...Leland Harlan (now available through 1stBooks).

Through his poetry, he describes his journey to discovery and to answer the question, "What's this all about?" With poems about friends, acquaintances, relatives and beloved animals, he mixes these topics with aspects of daily life. From the joys of caffeine and ice cream to the companionship of that special someone, Harlan's book offers personal experiences that nearly all readers can relate to.

He illustrates his unique style with a brilliant description of life's small gifts in "Stand-On-Blue":

"The blue wave is frothed with power/as the surfer stands-on-blue./The monster-wave ascends to an/overpowering...time-stopping.../luminous blue as the surfer separates/from the waxed-board which arcs alone/as a tangent spear./Once again, relentlessly the surfer/paddles to stand-on-blue and find the balance, find the curl, and the/dream of the perfect wave..."

Through his writing, he encourages readers to continue exploring their world and themselves. He urges them to utilize their creativity and welcome the laughter that resides deep inside. When a chuckle bubbles up to the surface, it offers a glimpse of the beauty of life and invites happiness into daily experiences, he writes.

Harlan is a retired district manager from the circulation department of The Bakersfield Californian newspaper. Countless hours in the library and an interest in literature prompted him to write his two poems, Me? Ow! and Saint Bernard.
