Airport Police Strongly Remind Travelers to Abide by the No Passenger Pick-Up and Drop-Off at Terminal Curbside

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 29, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Police are reminding travelers that passenger drop-offs and pick-ups at terminal curbside, traffic islands and parking structure entrances are prohibited. As a security precaution, private vehicles are instructed to park in the airport's Central Terminal Area (CTA) parking structures through Sunday, January 4, 2004.

Drivers violating the no passenger drop-off or pick-up policy are subject to a substantial fine by law enforcement monitoring the Upper/Departure and Lower/Arrival levels roadways. Barriers have been installed on the roadways to separate private vehicles from commercial vehicles. Drivers crossing the barriers can be cited for stopping in a red zone, blocking traffic and causing a vehicular safety hazard.

As an alternative to private vehicles, travelers are encouraged to use commercial public transportation such as taxis, door-to-door shuttle vans, public buses, Metro Rail Green Line via Aviation Boulevard Station, Van Nuys FlyAway and other direct-to-airport buses, and limousines for hire.

Passengers also are advised to use Economy Lot B (at La Cienega Boulevard and 111th Street) and Lot C (at Sepulveda Boulevard and 96th Street) and board LAX's courtesy shuttle buses to the passenger terminals. Both lots offer free parking for the first 2 hours. Rates are $8 a day at Lot B and $10 a day at Lot C.
