Buffalo Technology Announces a Plug-and-Play Solution for Extending Wireless Networks

The Router / Repeater Kit Provides Home, SOHO and SMB Users with a Simple and Affordable Way to Build and Extend a Wireless Network

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- CES -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of networking solutions for home, SOHO and SMBs, today announced the Buffalo AirStation(tm) G54 Wireless Router and Repeater Kit (WRB-G54K).

The WRB-G54K includes Buffalo's AirStation 54Mbps Wireless Broadband Router Base Station-g (WBR-G54) and the award winning AirStation 54Mbps Wireless Compact Repeater Bridge-g (WLA-G54C), which comes pre-configured, out-of-the-box. The solution is designed for large homes or multi-floor spaces and allows users to create a wireless network and extend the range of that network with less hassle and very little cost.

"The number of computers in homes and small offices is on the increase and so is the need to build a wireless network and extend the range of that network. Because of this and the fact that wireless networks often have little spots where the wireless signal is lost, we've seen a dramatic increase in the sales of our compact repeater bridge," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of Buffalo Technology's Networking Division. "There is definitely a demand for a simple, affordable solution. We are meeting that demand by providing our customers with an inexpensive product that comes pre-configured, so all they need to do is plug it in and they will immediately enhance their wireless network."

Designed for 802.11b and 802.11g networks, the WRB-G54K offers plug and play repeating and integrates pre-configured Wide Distribution System (WDS). It also provides a built-in roaming feature so users can seamlessly move throughout their wireless network without losing connectivity. The solution also offers enhanced security with WPA, AES, 802.1x, 128-bit WEP, password protection and MAC address registration.

The base station offers a built-in 4-port Ethernet switch and allows users to create a wireless network. The compact repeater bridge covers dead spots and because it comes pre-configured, the repeater bridge offers a quick and simple way to extend a wireless network. Both the repeater and router include an antenna interface (antenna sold separately) so users can add an external antenna and extend their signal distance even farther.

Backed by a limited two-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the WRB-G54K will be available in February 2004 at a street price of $199. For more information about Buffalo Technology and its products, please visit the company's Web site at www.buffalotech.com.
