Buffalo Technology Announces 125MBPS Cable/DSL Router

The WHR2-G54 Incorporates Future-Proof Features While Offering the Utmost in Wireless Security and the Fastest Speeds Available for 802.11g Compatible Networks

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- CES -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of networking solutions for home, SOHO and SMBs, today announced its new AirStation(tm) 125Mbps Wireless Cable / DSL Router-g (WHR2-G54). The product takes Buffalo to the next level of wireless networking by offering the ultimate in wireless security and the fastest wireless throughput rates available on the market today.

"Consumers and businesses are becoming more tech-savvy. Home networking is becoming increasingly popular as consumers purchase more computers, printers and home network storage devices like the Buffalo LinkStation. Users are progressively downloading and streaming audio, video, etc. and adopting broadband access at staggering rates. They need state-of-the-art Wi-Fi technology that is secure, simple to use and will compliment their technology environment and habits," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of Buffalo Technology's Networking Division. "It is important for us to offer the most sophisticated products available to address our customers' growing needs. This new technology-forward meets the performance demands of high-speed Internet users now and in the future."

The WHR2-G54 is a four-port broadband router that offers a robust feature-set including forward-looking technology Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH). Fiber is gaining ground in the worldwide broadband market and is set to become a primary means of connectivity as the price and complexities of installing fiber decrease. The WHR2-G54 also incorporates enterprise-class security features such as WPA, AES, 802.1x and 128/64-bit WEP. Buffalo's exclusive Intrusion Detector notifies users when an attack has been attempted on their network. The product also features MAC address registration, privacy separator, dynamic packet filtering and a wireless output setting, which allows users to set the parameters of their wireless signal.

The WHR2-G54 is an 802.11g compliant router that offers an added mode of operation equivalent to a signal rate of 125Mbps. Performance in this mode provides the industry's best throughput in real world, Wi-Fi compliant environments. Unlike competing high-speed solutions, the WHR2-G54 does not cause harm to nearby 2.4 GHz wireless systems. The latest AirStation performance mode is based on Broadcom (Nasdaq:BRCM) 54g(tm) MaxPerformance chipset and the company's AfterBurner technology designed for high-speed Wi-Fi networks.

"Wi-Fi networks are gaining popularity in homes and businesses and users should have access to the technology that meets their needs," stated Jeff Abramowitz, Senior Director of WLAN Marketing for Broadcom's Home and Wireless Networking Business Unit. "Broadcom's latest offering provides both 802.11g-compliance and a performance mode that can significantly increase throughput in an 802.11g-capable network. By incorporating AfterBurner into its new broadband router, Buffalo provides the ideal technology for anyone with an 802.11g compliant wireless network who demands the utmost in performance, compatibility and reliability."

The WHR2-G54 also incorporates Buffalo's revolutionary AirStation One-Touch Secure System (A.O.S.S) -- a patent pending technology that is designed to make secure wireless home networking as simple as the click of a mouse. A.O.S.S is designed to create a secure home network infrastructure by allowing one wireless device on a network to serve all the clients on that network, thus wireless devices can seamlessly and securely connect to and communicate with other wireless devices. It provides instant wireless connectivity and a secure wireless network simultaneously.

Backed by a limited two-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the WHR2-G54 will be available in February 2004 at a street price of $199. For more information about Buffalo Technology and its products, please visit the company's Web site at www.buffalotech.com.
