Financial Executives/LA Chapter Sets Presentation on New York Stock Exchange Application of 'SOX'

-- NYSE Officer to Review New Governance Architecture for Listed Companies --


LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The monthly meeting of the Los Angeles chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) will feature a presentation by a New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) officer who will discuss the new governance architecture being implemented by the NYSE to govern its own affairs as well the new corporate governance standards that have recently been adopted by the Exchange for its listed companies. The dinner program will be held on Thursday, January 15, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Third Floor Reagan Dining Room at the Jonathan Club, 545 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles.

James Duffy, senior vice president and associate general counsel of the NYSE, also will discuss governance and market structure affecting the securities industry in general, which the Securities and Exchange Commission is likely to address in the coming months, and what impact the new regulations may have on public companies in the U.S. The NYSE's Western Regional vice president will also provide an update on the markets in general and the NYSE's western region initiatives.

During FEI's professional development program, which is held prior to the regular dinner meeting, Duffy, who played a key role in the in the development and implementation of the NYSE's new regulations, will provide an overview on the listing standards and discuss the issues that have been of most concern to NYSE listed companies as those companies prepare for the upcoming 2004 proxy season. The professional development program will start at 5 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Jonathan Club.
