Re-Educating the School Lunch

NORTHBROOK, Ill., Jan. 13, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Does your kid say, "School lunch sucks!"? He or she is right! It's time for notoriously poor quality school lunches to get smart. "Diet plays a pivotal role in the physical, mental and emotional illnesses that plague our nation's young people," says nutritionist and author Bonnie Minsky. School lunches can play a critical role in improving the health of America's kids. According to the Centers for Disease Control, eight million children and teenagers in the United States are either overweight or obese. One out of five American children take Ritalin for ADD or ADHD. Violent behavior in children and teens has increased dramatically. Ms. Minsky, who has recently been appointed by a Chicago area school system to drastically improve the school lunch programs of eight schools, presents evidence that the typical young persons diet of highly processed, industrial foods leads to the poor health of America's children. In her timely book, Our Children's Health, Minsky outlines dietary changes and supplementation appropriate for children and teens, and what to feed them that they will eat.

Our Children's Health has "meals-they-will-eat" plans for all kinds of children and teens, including special diets for depressed, ADHD, asthmatic or overweight children. Also includes much-needed nutritional supplementation guidelines for children, and even a great appendix of the safest household cleaning products available. Case histories and personal experiences are included along with commentary in each section by a Naturopathic Physician.

Vital Health Publishing is helping her get the word out about children's health and what can be done about the disastrous state of the school lunch system. They have published two of her books, Nutrition In A Nutshell and Our Children's Health, and in 2004, plan on publishing her curriculum for schools and parent advocates to use as a guide to implementing healthy school lunch programs.

Our Children's Health, $15.95 and Nutrition In A Nutshell, $14.95 are currently available at www.vitalhealthbooks.com, Amazon.com, at Barnes & Noble, Fruitfulyield.com and by request at your local bookstore, health food store and Borders Books.
