HERNDON, Va., Jan. 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Information Technology (IT) sector has won a multiyear contract/task order to develop an information exchange that will benefit criminal investigators throughout the Puget Sound region.
Under terms of the agreement, Northrop Grumman will design, engineer, procure and install the Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LInX) system for state and local law enforcement agencies as well as the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). LInX is a data warehouse system containing information from participating state and local law enforcement agencies that can be securely accessed using a standard web browser. With LInX, police officers, investigators and crime analysts will be able to connect sketchy and disparate pieces of information within seconds from databases in Seattle, Kitsap, Snohomish and King Counties; Washington State Patrol and Washington Jail Booking and Records System; and NCIS. Previously, these authorities have had access to the limited data available within their own jurisdictions and the information stored in national databases. Participating agencies also will have the benefit of each other's collective investigative efforts, which will lead to easier identification and resolution of criminal or potential terrorist activity.

"Securing accurate, timely information is the cornerstone of homeland security. In the past, it could take weeks for public officials to uncover and investigate available information. Using LInX, police and other law enforcement officials will be able to identify people, locations, vehicles and weapons, and they will be able to analyze situational associations from multiple jurisdictions within seconds."
The 18-month contract includes a six-month implementation period to finalize requirements; design, evaluate, procure, install, and test the system; and train personnel at the NCIS headquarters in Washington, D.C., and Seattle, Wash. Northrop Grumman IT will provide systems and communication components as well as one year of on-site support at the Northrop Grumman facility in Renton, Wash. With initial funding of $1.25 million, the contract is potentially worth $10 million over several years.
