Expression of Thought in Poetry -- New Poetry Compilation Touches on Love and Life

PHILADELPHIA, January 23, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A compilation of poetry that comes straight from the heart of a woman who has poured her thoughts and feelings on paper for decades, Expressions of Truth in Poetry (now available through 1stbooks), by Virginia Cockburn-Ingram, is a personal account of love and life.

She covers a wide range of human emotions in this book, spanning from the torturous heartbreak of love to desperate depression. She captures in words everything from the intense joy of love to the empathy she has for the thousands of homeless children in the world. She also draws on her West Indian and Hispanic backgrounds, writing about facets of her heritage. Some of her poems are in Spanish, opening up an opportunity for even more people to enjoy her work.

In "The Petals of Flowers You Gave Me," she draws a connection from her love life to petals on a flower:

"I have kept the petals of the flowers you gave me/well . . . I guess because it meant so much to me/They did not endure with time; their lives came to/an end so quickly due to the short life flowers have/I will memorialize its petals because they came from you/from your love/And your love, my love, our love will remain like/the petals of these flowers, only unlike the petals/which grew dark and crisp and at any given time will collapse;/our love will grow stronger, brighter, yet softer with time./Not collapsing when pressured./I love the petals of these flowers only, because I love You."

Cockburn-Ingram, born in Panama, wrote this collection of poems in a span of 20 years. She is finally sharing her work with the world. She enjoys spending time with her family and gardening in her spare time. Illustrations in the book were done by the author, Cheryl Ingram-Bush and the author's daughter, Erika Cabrera.
