State of California Honors Virco for 3rd Consecutive Year

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 4, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- For the third consecutive year, Virco Mfg. Corporation (NYSE:VIR) has been named a Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) winner by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB).

As a leading supplier of chairs, tables and storage equipment for commercial and hospitality settings - as well as the largest manufacturer of educational furniture in the United States - Virco has received numerous awards from a variety of local, state and national organizations in recognition of its environmental achievements. In fact, Virco was selected by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 2003 as a charter member of its WasteWise Hall of Fame.

Headquartered in Torrance, CA, with a major facility in Conway, AR, Virco's Torrance Division was honored as a WRAP winner for its substantial waste reduction achievements. These efforts enabled Virco/Torrance to raise its overall recycling output by 20% during a 12-month period.

Recent initiatives at Virco's Torrance-based facility include a division-wide effort to increase the recycling of aluminum cans and plastic bottles. What's more, an enhanced metal recycling program is enabling additional cost savings for the company.

Established in 1993 by the CIWMB, the WRAP initiative recognizes companies that have made significant progress in reducing their solid, non-hazardous waste. CIWMB is a division of the State of California's Environmental Protection Agency.
