LINKOPING, Sweden, Feb. 12, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Saab Bofors Underwater Systems (SBUS) has received an order for a Product Definition of the next generation underwater system, TMS. TMS is short for Torpedo, Mine and Sensor. The two year SEK 100 million contract is with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The FMV represents both the Swedish and the Finnish Navies.
"We are proud to enter into this contract with the FMV. The TMS project is an excellent opportunity for SBUS to participate in international cooperations in underwater systems, which is crucial to SBUS's future," says Mikael Grodzinsky, President of Saab Bofors Underwater Systems AB.
The contract entails SBUS working together with representatives of the FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) in defining the next generation underwater system. The Finnish Navy and Finnish defence industry will be represented in the project.
"Sweden is among the world leaders in underwater systems, with special focus on shallow and difficult underwater environments. We regard the start of the TMS project as an opportunity to secure Swedish expertise in unmanned underwater vehicles long term. TMS will meet the requirements of the new network-centric defence," says Grodzinsky.
