A Little Piece of Heaven -- Angel Helps Little Girl Find Her Lost Faith in New Novel

BENTON, Ill., February 16, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sometimes people need a little help with their faith. Little Slatter Slopey needs a reason to believe, and she finds one from a place no one would ever guess. Toni L. Head introduces Slatter in Slatter Slopey/The Angel's First Visit (now available through 1stBooks), the first book in a series of three.

Head tells a heartwarming story of how God directed a guardian angel to come to Earth and enter a young girl's life to show her there is a reason to go on. Slatter Slopey traverses the rural farms in the early 1950s to the town of Whitton. Slatter is a 6 year old girl who has lost her faith in God and life. Her mother dies, and her father leaves her in the care of her elderly grandparents who live in an old farm house nestled behind a grove of pines. Her grandfather, J.E. Slopey, runs the only grocery store in town, and her Granny B takes care of things around the farm.

Despite the love she receives from her grandparents, Slatter struggles with unanswered spiritual questions about life. She lacks the age and experience to understand the complexities of her situation. Slatter needs a little piece of Heaven to hold on to and a reason to dream again. In order to restore her faith, God sends a guardian angel as a heavenly ambassador to Earth. His job is to perform certain miracles, bridging the gap between Heaven and Earth and giving the young girl a cause to believe in.

Slatter Slopey/The Angel's First Visit is a heartfelt work of fiction to instill faith in the youngest of readers, helping them understand there is a reason to believe.

"I wrote this book to show the young and the young at heart that God uses his miraculous powers to accomplish his purposes. I feel that children as well as most adults are naturally curious about the spirit world and I hope that through my book, people will see that not all of spirit world is evil and does not have to be feared," Head says.

Head wrote Slatter Slopey/The Angel's First Visit, her first book, based on her own childhood. She lost her mother to cancer when she was 6 and was raised by her grandparents. She is married and has five children and three grandchildren. Together, she and her husband, Jim, have two businesses in addition to their careers. They also enjoy creating stage sets for children's plays at their church.
