Walking Towards Serenity -- New Book Helps `Walking Wounded' Find Peace and Happiness in Life

CLINTON, N.J., February 16, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The "walking wounded" roam the streets, but their maladies are not the visible variety. Inside, many people struggle along the paths of life. Toward Serenity: A Common Sense Approach to Mental Health Based on the Serenity Prayer (now available through 1stBooks), by Vincent B. Cardarelli, is a guidepost pointing people in the right direction toward peace.

Based on the years of writing he did for a mental health column of the same name, Towards Serenity provides practical suggestions about living in a way that brings serenity to readers. According to Cardarelli, happiness is an elusive goal, and his book is here to help people understand that while events happen beyond one's control, it is still possible to find peace.

Absent of "psycho-babble," his book is meant to be accessible to anyone who is having trouble in life and needs assistance. Cardarelli divides the book into sections with short chapters on empowering topics. His approach is based on several sources, such as theology, psychology, client-centered therapy, solution-focused brief therapy and the 12-step program. Towards Serenity steers readers away from digging in the past and rockets them into the future where happiness and serenity await.

Cardarelli was ordained a Catholic priest. He went on to graduate school from Seton Hall University and did post-graduate work at Princeton Theological Seminary. After 17 years as a parish priest, he switched careers and began working as a mental health counselor. He has taught at various schools, is a certified substance abuse counselor, worked in community outreach programs, volunteered as dance host on cruise ships and hosted bus trips for the local adult school. Towards Serenity is his first book.
