Avalon Gold Corporation: Battle Mountain Sample Results

BELLINGHAM, Wash., Feb. 23, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Avalon Gold Corporation (OTCBB:AVGC) reports results from three grab samples taken from its 90% owned LSA claims located in the Battle Mountain area of Lander County Nevada.

The first sample LSA No.6U, was grabbed on the southwest quadrant portion of the claim group, which produced modestly anomalous gold values. However, minerals usually associated with gold such as arsenic and copper were highly anomalous. Silver was also highly anomalous along with lead and zinc, which are usually associated with silver. The second sample LSA No.6L located on the lower southwest quadrant section of the claim group produced modestly anomalous gold along with arsenic, copper, silver, lead and zinc. The third sample LSA No.4 located in the northeast quadrant did not produce any anomalous values.

In view of these results, a grid emplacement and preliminary sample program on the claim group is justified. More intense sampling and further exploration work will follow this.

"It is very encouraging to know that Newmont Mining Corporation has put so much effort into developing the Phoenix Project, a gold, copper, silver and mining operation which is located right next door, we expect further sampling results on the LSA to be even more positive," states Robert Waters, President of Avalon Gold Corporation.

Avalon Gold Corporation is an aggressive gold mining company focused on finding, exploring and developing exceptional gold properties internationally.
