HERNDON, Va., Feb. 25, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has expanded its business with two Texas state agencies, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Department of Transportation (TXDOT), with a recent contract award for Information Technology (IT) support from the Texas State Data Centers.
Northrop Grumman's IT sector has been managing the Texas data centers in both Austin and San Angelo since 1994 and 1998, respectively, and assists Texas state and local agencies in transitioning their primary processing functions to these centers. Today, Northrop Grumman supports the day-to-day IT needs of more than 50 different agencies, commissions, cities, boards and universities in Texas from the state data centers.
Northrop Grumman will provide maintenance and data center operations on a statewide Crash Records Information System (CRIS), under joint development by DPS and TXDOT. When completed, the CRIS system will allow both agencies to more precisely track crash data on roadways. Data gathered will be used to more accurately determine where and when collisions are most likely to occur, and identify where roadway improvements are needed to reduce highway incidents. The system will also include an electronic method to correctly and more efficiently complete crash reports, and subsequently reduce the administrative work required of public safety officers. Completion of the system is planned for the end of 2004.
Work will be performed at the San Angelo- and Austin-based Texas State Data Centers, which are operated by Northrop Grumman IT on behalf of the Texas Department of Information Resources. DPS and TXDOT are existing state data center customers and by expanding their use of the data centers, these agencies support the state's technology objectives of improving operational efficiencies and achieving economies of scale through consolidation and outsourcing.

The contract is valued at approximately $4.4 million.
