Saab Signs Contract with the Finnish Defence Forces Worth SEK 165 Million

LINKOPING, Sweden, March 04, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Saab Training Systems, Huskvarna, has signed a several-year contract with the Finnish Defence Forces. The contract is for providing maintenance and support of the combat training system which the company is to begin supplying in 2004.

"We are delighted that the Finnish military authorities chose us for this contract. The Finnish military has always maintained a high level of training and instruction and it has been using our simulation systems for many years. They will now be the sixth largest user of combat training systems to sign a support contract with us. This provides further confirmation of our strong position as a leading supplier of services in the field of military training," says Johan Ohlson, Chief executive Officer of Saab Training Systems AB.

Saab was awarded the contract for the combat training system at the end of 2002. The system, which is mobile, consists of various weapons simulators, communications systems, mobile structures and systems for directing and evaluating exercises. In addition to service, maintenance and logistics, this new contract also includes regular training and operational support for its use, both in the command centre and in the field.

Saab Training Systems runs a comprehensive operation in the field of providing support for military training systems all over the world. The military authorities in the United Kingdom, the USA, the Netherlands, Norway and Germany have already chosen Saab as their main supplier for maintenance and support. At the German GUZ combat training centre Saab is responsible for, amongst other things, providing support for all the simulation systems at the centre.

Saab Training Systems works together with local Finnish companies to set up and staff the mobile maintenance unit in Sakyla.

Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capabilities in systems integration.
