Veterinary Pet Insurance Celebrates D.C.'s Pets at Pet Fest America

VPI Joins The Humane Society of the United States in Honoring Responsible Pet Ownership at MCI Center

BREA, Calif., March 4, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) announced its sponsorship of The Humane Society of the United States' (HSUS) Pet Fest America(TM), a series of events designed to celebrate and honor the joy of pet ownership in a fun and festive atmosphere. The event features the athletic prowess of the IAMS(r) Superdogs, a troupe of family-owned dogs who have become nationally recognized for their ability to run, jump and retrieve at incredible speeds as well as perform a wide range of agility moves. The next in this series of events is in D.C. at the MCI Center on Sunday, March 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with shows at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

In addition to sponsoring the event, VPI is participating as an exhibitor. Company representatives will be on hand to provide expert tips on a variety of issues from "pet-proofing" the home to the top 10 health issues for pets, as well as advising families on how to select health insurance for these beloved family members. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about adopting a pet from one of many local animal shelters. Veterinary Pet Insurance promotes the health and well-being of all pets and encourages the purchase of a VPI policy as one of the first steps in responsible pet ownership.

"Insured pets often receive better and more frequent veterinary care, because their owners worry less about the costs involved," said Stephanie Shain, director of outreach for companion animals at The HSUS. "We share VPI's belief that ensuring proper veterinary care for a new pet is one of the cornerstones of responsible pet ownership."

"The HSUS understands the impact of pets not being properly cared for," said Bobbie Cooper, marketing director for Veterinary Pet Insurance. "Our participation at these family-centered HSUS events will enable us to educate more pet owners about the importance of health insurance for their pets. It also helps pet owners afford the sophisticated veterinary care available today so they can make decisions from the heart and not the wallet."

VPI makes necessary care and high-tech treatments more affordable, from minor problems to life-threatening situations. Policyholders can visit any licensed veterinarian worldwide. Available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, VPI policies cover medical conditions related to accidents and illnesses including cancer in dogs, cats, birds and a variety of exotic pets. An additional Vaccination & Routine Care Coverage rider is available to help pay for the cost of an annual exam, vaccinations, spay or neuter, prescription flea control, dental care and more.
