STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- On 10 March, TeliaSonera Sweden reduces the prices of its Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) by close to 25%, from SEK 3.80 to SEK 2.90 per message. The new price applies not only to MMS messages sent to other Telia subscriptions, but also to other operators. In 2003, TeliaSonera Sweden's customers sent over 2.3 million MMS messages.
The new price applies to all Telia's private and business customers in Sweden, and to all mobile subscriptions, including prepaid subscriptions. On 20 February, Telia introduced free MMS messaging during the weekends. The campaign runs until 2 may 2004, and until then Telia's customers will be sending MMS messages free of charge on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
"MMS makes it possible to capture the meaningful events of our lives and share them instantly with friends via mobile phones," says Indra Asander, Head of the Consumer Segment, TeliaSonera Sweden. "The possibility to combine light, images and text opens up new ways of expression that cannot be included in SMS messages. MMS messaging is gaining in popularity, and I believe that our reduced prices together with free messaging during the weekends will further enhance this trend."
In 2003, Telia's customers sent over 2.3 million MMS messages. 60% of these, i.e. 1.4 million messages, were sent by private customers. Interest in sending messages with images increases rapidly. This has been noticed in the 74 Telia stores where the demand for camera phones has been great. In December 2003 and January 2004, three of the five most sold mobile phones included MMS messaging options and two were camera phones.
