In 2003, businesses in Mississippi earned more than $50 million in contracts with Northrop Grumman's Ship Systems sector. With the development and construction of major shipbuilding programs set to take place over the next several years, this contract amount is expected to increase.

The first three tours will be held March 18, Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville; March 24, Pear River Community College in Poplarville; and March 25, Capp's Center in Indianola. All events are from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

"Our company is fortunate to have recently won a number of major shipbuilding contracts, and it is important to us that businesses in the states in which we operate have every opportunity to compete for supplier contracts or subcontractor projects that we may have available," said Dr. Philip A. Dur, president, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. "This outreach tour has been set up specifically so that local companies can learn more about these opportunities, and how they can compete for them."

"The tour will provide the networking that can prove advantageous to many businesses in the state of Mississippi wishing to be included in future contracts," added Dur. "The economic value of further growing an existing business is every bit as significant and important as new industries are to our state. The outreach events offer an opportunity for all of us to work together to stimulate the state's economy through shipbuilding activity on the Gulf Coast."
