Emulex Announces Certification of its LightPulse LP10000 and LP1050 HBAs with Quantum's New SDLT 600 Tape Drive, Fibre Channel Tape Libraries and Disk-Based Backup Systems

COSTA MESA, Calif., March 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and a leading supplier of intelligent building blocks for next generation storage networking systems, today announced that Quantum Corporation's SDLT 600 tape drive, M- and P-series tape libraries and DX-Series disk-based backup systems, have been certified as storage area network (SAN) interoperable with Emulex's latest LightPulse(tm) HBAs. Certification assures customers of interoperability between Quantum's high performing SDLT 600 tape drives, new PX720, P7000, P4000, M2500, M1800, M1500 tape libraries and DX100 and DX30 disk-based backup systems and Emulex's enterprise-class LP10000 and midrange LP1050 HBAs.

"As a global leader in storage that delivers highly reliable backup, archive and recovery solutions for the enterprise environment, Quantum is pleased to certify the Emulex LP10000 and LP1050 HBAs," said Shane Jackson, director, strategic alliances for Quantum Corporation. "Certification of Emulex and Quantum Super DLTtape drives, automation and enhanced backup systems enables customers to reliably connect our Fibre Channel products into SAN environments."

The Emulex LP10000 host bus adapter offers enterprise-class performance ideal for large or mixed OS SAN environments, while the LP1050 is a value-priced, dependable HBA optimized for today's most popular OS SAN environments. The robust features of LightPulse HBAs provide a high degree of flexibility and complement Quantum's tape and disk storage solutions to suit highly scalable SAN environments for all ranges of storage needs.

The recently introduced SDLT 600 offers industry-leading speed, capacity, and unprecedented manageability through DLTSage, its unique suite of interactive diagnostic tools that allows IT managers to better predict and prevent backup failures. In addition to outperforming all tape drives in its class, the SDLT 600 offers a 2 GB optical Fibre Channel interface that, with high-performance HBAs like the LP10000 and LP1050, makes it ideal for SANs. Quantum's DX100 and DX30 enable fast and more reliable backup and restore operations while maintaining customers' existing backup architectures. This, in addition to Quantum's tape automation systems, which are designed for reliability, flexibility, performance, support, and price, can now be seamlessly integrated into SAN environments with the LP10000 and LP1050 HBAs.

"Quantum's SDLT 600 tape drives, tape automation and disk-based backup systems are designed to offer customers high-performance options for SANs," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "Emulex LightPulse HBA customers will welcome the seamless interoperability and maximum uptime resulting from the integration of both Emulex and Quantum products into their SAN environments."
