The Path of the Lotus -- New Novel Puts Prince to the Test in Land of Dead

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- S.D. Townsend takes readers back to the glory of ancient Egypt to traverse across the land of the dead. A young prince must prove his worth in a new fantasy novel, The Path of the Lotus (now available through 1stBooks).

Set in ancient Egypt, The Path of Lotus opens on a land of magic and powerful gods and goddesses. The story follows the exploits of a young prince, Hepittiani, who is being watched by the gods. When he is killed, he wakes in the lands of Khert Neter, the afterlife. He learns that the cat goddess, Muii, has been tasked with leading him through Duat, the land of demons and monsters, to Tuat, a large cavern that leads to the island of Osiris, where he will be judged to see if he is worthy of eternal life.

They begin their journey through Duat. Hepittiani must fight his way through this land with only a magic bow and a spell book containing all the magical spells and incantations known to ancient Egypt. Together, they battle the Aka, fighting monsters created by the gods, and the Aha Kor, demon soldiers of the god, Set. Hepittiani must pass all of the tests if he hopes to pass judgment. Along the path, Hepittiani and Muii befriend Mossan, a sailor who is also searching for the island of Osiris. Only by working together and trusting each other will they have a chance to pass all of the tests and arrive for their judgment day.

A fantastic novel steeped in a magical history of ancient Egypt, The Path of the Lotus takes readers down a road to adventure, redemption and salvation.

A native of Colorado, Townsend attended Western State College in Colorado and University of Colorado. After a stint with the Air Force, he settled in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he enjoys fishing, camping and hiking. The Path of the Lotus is his first novel.
