Duty to Love and Country -- New novel tells of Marine couple's experiences

ST. CLOUD, Minn., March 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- With thousands of American troops patrolling dangerous parts of the world, Jim Clancy's new novel, The Call of Duty (now available through 1stBooks), is a timely and poignant addition to fiction writing. In the novel, two young Marines, Jim Ireland and Melissa McGuire, meet during their first days of military service and endure the emotions of love and sacrifice amid the turmoil of service.

Jim, a combat Marine, and Melissa, a computer operator, grew up near each other in Minnesota, but did not meet until they started their training in Camp Pendleton, Calif. They quickly fall in love. Jim, adoring Melissa's positive demeanor and radiant smile, and Melissa, admiring Jim's handsome build, discover that they have found true love in the most unlikely place.

The Call of Duty, set in the late 1990s, follows the couple through events in Minnesota, Alaska and Guatemala. It is a captivating mix of intimate moments and raw action. Both Jim and Melissa persevere through trying times, despite the pain and sacrifice it is to be apart.

The Call of Duty balances gripping suspense with romantic love to create a realistic novel about two young people with a strong sense of responsibility not only to each other, but to their country as well.

Clancy served in the Marine Corps. After working for several years in a blue collar job, he worked in a bank, which provided him with a stepping stone to create his own business. He has managed his own company for 26 years. The Call of Duty is his first book, but he has completed a sequel that he plans to publish in the future.
