Microsoft's Riddles Revealed -- New Book Offers Novice Users Tips for Mastering Applications and Keystrokes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 18, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Newcomers to the workforce should know that nearly all career paths involve some sort of computer knowledge. With his book, Solving the Riddle of Microsoft and Your Computer (now available through 1stBooks), Mark Riddle levels the playing field between seasoned users and novices.

Solving the Riddle of Microsoft and Your Computer focuses on the most commonly used functions in corporate America today. Using a format that is easy to read, Riddle delivers all the word processing skills that he spent more than 35 years learning.

"Keystrokes are (explained) step by step so you can also master how to use computer applications. For the brand new employee trying to establish a reputation, computer skills are a necessity," says Riddle. Solving the Riddle of Microsoft and Your Computer serves as an essential tool to build that reputation.

Riddle divides his book into three chapters. The first chapter provides useful computer basics and describes simple operations such as using the mouse, modifying screen savers and other settings, using the calculator, using the compact disc player and using Microsoft Paint. Chapter 2 discusses how to use Windows Explorer, which Riddle refers to as the computer's "electronic filing cabinet." Chapter 3, the meat of the book, delves into detailed information on how to use key Microsoft Word functions including navigating menus, using the wide variety of toolbars and shortcut keys and creating and using an interactive table of contents.

Though this book targets people who have never operated a personal computer, it may also benefit more experienced office workers.

Riddle lives with his wife, Norma, in Colorado, where he works as a systems engineer with a major defense contractor. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years and earned his bachelor's degree in computer information systems management from Colorado Christian University. Solving the Riddle of Microsoft and Your Computer, his first book, grew from his desire to help others.
