Learning, Adventure and an Evil Mummy -- New Novel Offers Young Readers Fun and Education

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla., March 18, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Get ready for an educational field trip unlike any other. Deborah Solice is a chaperone for adventure through history in a new series that begins with The Eye of the Undead: The Hidden Channel: An Adventure Series in Time Vol. 1 (now available through 1stBooks), winner of the 2003 Louisiana Educators as Authors award.

Solice takes young readers back in time to real historical places through a revolving cast of fictional characters. Each story ventures to a different geographical location during a different time period. The Eye of the Undead thrusts readers back to ancient Egypt for a mysterious pyramid escapade.

Two friends, Tiffany and Daniel, are hurled back in time through a computer program. Trapped inside Imhotep's Step Pyramid in the middle of the hot Sahara Desert, the two must keep their wits and remember their history if they ever want to make it out of this frightful predicament. Along the way they encounter a new friend and are protected by a special creature. However, lurking in the darkness of the tombs, an evil mummy stalks the two students, as the monster tries to escape the underworld. As they avoid monsters and navigate the dark catacombs, Tiffany and Daniel desperately search for a way home.

With detailed illustrations and "guided" questions from Solice's students, The Eye of the Undead is a personalized experience in time that scours the landscape for learning fun and unearths ancient adventure.

Solice has been an educator for 20 years. During that time, she has conducted inservices in reading, writing and math for districts in several Southern states. A national board certified teacher with experience in nearly all areas of education, she began writing this series while developing the curriculum for her school district in Louisiana. She now lives in Florida with her daughters and their two cats. The Eye of the Undead is her first novel. She is currently working on the rest of the series.
