EMS Wireless Announces New Cobra RET Antennas

ATLANTA, March 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Wireless, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), introduced today at CTIA Wireless 2004 the Cobra(tm) (COntrollaBle Radiating Aperture) Series RET, a new line of remote electrical tilt antennas designed to assist carriers in their next generation of network deployments.

The EMS Wireless Cobra(tm) series antennas have been designed to give wireless carriers as much flexibility in antenna adjustment as possible. The Cobra(tm) series can either be ordered with Mechanical Eletrical Tilt (MET) and field-retrofitted later with Remote Electrical Tilt (RET), or ordered from the factory with the RET actuator already installed. The current customer interface options for the Cobra(tm) RET antennas are via a RS485-to-RS232 converter to a laptop or via a primary controller mounted at the base of the tower. The RET can be used on any EMS Wireless Cobra series antenna regardless of frequency.

"We are very proud of the Cobra(tm) series RET antennas," said Michael Gulledge, vice president of Sales and Marketing, EMS Wireless. "We worked very closely with the carriers to understand their antenna needs for their next generation networks, and we believe the Cobra series provides them with the most flexibility and control available."

Key features of the antennas include a single cable up the tower to control up to twelve antennas (all antennas are daisy chained to eliminate the need for individual control cables up the tower). An optional primary controller can be added at the base of the tower to allow carriers to control up to 32 antenna actuators. Another key feature involves the antenna downtilt settings, which can be obtained from the actuator without re-sweeping the adjustment wiper to verify the setting. All Cobra(tm) RET antennas have been designed to meet or exceed the AISG (Antenna Interface Standards Group) standards.

"The AISG standard is important to carriers because it allows an open architecture on next-generation networks," said Dave McKay, vice president Engineering, EMS Wireless. "Our Cobra Series RET antennas have been engineered to ensure forward migration with technologies such as UMTS."
