FOXBORO, Mass., March 23, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Tharos Laboratories, Inc. has recently announced the addition of Norman Wainwright, Ph.D. to its Board of Directors. Dr. Wainwright is a Senior Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA, and an adjunct professor in the Boston University Marine Program. During his 25-year career, Dr. Wainwright's research has focused on analyzing bioactive compounds derived from marine organisms and how they may relate to human health.
Dr. Wainwright held various industrial research positions, including Director of Molecular Genetics at Interferon Sciences, Inc., of Falmouth, MA. He holds a doctorate from the University of Vermont and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has published over two dozen research studies in peer-reviewed journals, and has authored more than a dozen patents, involving inventions in molecular biology, interferon characterization, protein biochemistry, immunodiagnostics, and bacterial endotoxins. He has actively collaborated in applying his research to new product development, and performs basic research in life detection technology for NASA. He has also created key technologies in the areas of plant extract and food biotechnology. Dr. Wainwright's most current research focuses on primitive marine immune responses that can be used to fight infection. His work also includes developing tracer techniques for detecting cell components in geologic materials for the NASA Johnson Space Center.
While serving as a Director at Tharos Laboratories, Inc., Dr. Wainwright will also head up the Company's Research and Development and assist with the implementation of a Scientific Advisory Board. His focus will be the development and commercialization of phytonutrient technologies.
