Hatch-Mounted Inmarsat Antenna Now Available For C-130 Aircraft

NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 26, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) announced today at the Army Aviation Association of America's (AAAA) Annual Convention that its AMT-50 Satcom Antenna is now available for C-130 aircraft as part of a hatch-mounted Satcom solution.

EMS's SATCOM Division, the world leader in aeronautical Inmarsat Satcom systems, in cooperation with Aerospace Integration Corporation, has developed the Hatch-Mounted Inmarsat Antenna (HMIA). This product incorporates the renowned AMT-50 Aero-H Satcom Antenna coupled to an AIC UNICOM(TM) hatch to provide an integrated assembly for use on C-130 aircraft. The HMIA works in conjunction with the EMS VIPER II Ruggedized Satcom terminal to provide up to 256 kbps of data throughput to the aircraft. The VIPER II utilizes EMS's HSD-128 and HSD-X units to achieve this unprecedented performance, and is an integral component of JEMPRS-M2C2 -- Joint En-Route Mission Planning and Rehearsal System -- Multi-Modal Command and Control.

JEMPRS-M2C2, a roll-on-roll-off global satellite communication solution for military aircraft, makes possible en-route mission coordination via the Inmarsat satellite. This suite of equipment provides real-time voice and data communications, and enables mission planners and commanders in the air to engage in data collaboration with other locations -- regardless of where the aircraft are operating.

"This development changes how people will utilize Inmarsat Satcom in the future, because it allows aircraft without satellite communication capability to be rapidly fitted with a state-of-art 256 kbps system," says Dr. Neil Mackay, senior vice president and general manager of EMS Technologies' SATCOM Division.

John Parsley, AIC Manager of Advanced Programs, noted, "Our customers demand real-time data during missions, to redirect assets, update planning, and rehearse the operation prior to entering the zone of combat. We can now deliver that data over Inmarsat at speeds not previous available to anyone in flight. Not only do we get this capability in a single package, but also the system can be easily moved from aircraft to aircraft, which is a tremendous force multiplier."
