PHA Delivers College Internship Program

Program offers exposure, practical career experience


HOUSTON -- The Port of Houston Authority (PHA) has initiated a program to sponsor several college-level internships throughout the organization. Beginning in summer 2004, the program is open to students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs of the following schools:


 --     College of the Mainland
 --     Prairie View A&M University
 --     Texas A&M University - Galveston
 --     Texas A&M University Engineering Program
 --     Texas Southern University
 --     University of Houston - Clear Lake
 --     University of Texas Austin Engineering Program

"Our internship program is part of our continuing effort to deliver support to local communities through educational outreach," stated PHA Chairman Jim Edmonds. “We hope the exposure and practical experience that students gain in the various professional job functions at the port authority will help prepare them for the challenges of careers in the maritime industry or other fields of interest.”

The Port of Houston Authority owns and operates the public facilities located along the Port of Houston, the 25-mile long complex of diversified public and private facilities designed for handling general cargo, containers, grain and other dry bulk materials, project and heavy lift cargo, and other types of cargo.
