Nobody's Child -- New Novel Takes Readers into City Streets for Story of Survival and Faith

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 12, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- A young girl rises out of her derelict conditions to be a mother to the child the world wasn't ready for. First time author Verna Maria Williams dives into a world decaying just beneath the surface in her new novel, Nobody's Child (now available through AuthorHouse).

Williams invites readers into the decaying streets of inner city Denver as she tells the story of Brenda Quartermain, who grew up fast in a world of poverty and degradation. Throughout her young life, Brenda struggles with her conflicted emotions concerning her alcoholic mother. While her mother wastes her life in a drunken stupor, Brenda feels a swirling mix of love and hate. Her mother kills Brenda's drunk, abusive father and allows Uncle Jim into their house without a concern for Brenda's life. Despite the situation, Brenda desperately longs for a relationship with her mother. The horror of her life intensifies when she is 9. Uncle Jim, at first amusing to Brenda, begins having his way with her, hurting her night after night until she becomes pregnant at age 15. After giving birth to her baby, Jimson, she flees her life of terror for the uncertainty of the streets.

Abused, used and forgotten most of her life, Brenda struggles to rear her son and turns to the street to earn money. She endures the violent treatment of multiple men, growing up quickly. Brenda strives in the trenches of life to survive and make a way for herself and her son who came into the world belonging to no one. Through her struggles, God provides support and a little help to get her through.

An inspirational novel about beating the odds with faith, Nobody's Child is a story of how a world of decay can be turned upside down with determination and will.

Born in Augsburg, Germany, Williams has traveled to numerous destinations throughout her military childhood and adulthood. A member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, she has taken many different roads on her journey to God. With frank, real life depictions and a combination of her experiences and faith, she crafts stories that will touch the heart.
