The Torch Carrier -- New Book Traverses Grief in Search of Hope

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y., April 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- People deal with grief in their own ways. For Antonio Richardson, the earth shattering loss of his wife left him with a void that he thought he could never fill. His new book, The Torch Carrier (A Poetic Saga of Love) (now available through AuthorHouse), is a collection of poetic verse and prose that helped him navigate the grief of losing his wife.

The Torch Carrier takes readers on a journey in search of hope and a happy ending. It details Richardson's struggle to help his wife Cynthia cope with her terminal bout with breast cancer, a feat further frustrated by their youth. Left alone after Cynthia's passing, he must come to terms with his grief so he can carry on and raise their three children.

Enveloped in warmth, sincerity and love, The Torch Carrier takes readers down the road from grief to hope. His poetry and prose create a unique memoir of a widowed man, detailing the long battle with his wife's cancer, his helplessness as she slips away and the void left by her death. Through his writing, he is able to begin to cope, but it is the strange, nightly visits Cynthia pays him in his dreams and in surreal encounters that help him through the ordeal. As he struggles to find hope, she nudges him toward the arms of another so he may find happiness. Eventually, he finds himself traversing the emotional landscape of widowhood and new love to discover hope in the face of an old friend, Nereida.

Deeply emotional and profoundly insightful, The Torch Carrier follows a man's grief toward hope, discovering strength and weakness along the way on a truly human journey.

Currently employed at NBC as an operation's supervisor for "The Today Show with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer," "The Weekend Today Show" and occasionally "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw," Richardson lives just north of New York City. His family has grown from his three children to include Nereida, her daughter and his granddaughter. The Torch Carrier is his first published book.
