It details Richardson's struggle to help his wife Cynthia cope with her terminal bout with breast cancer, a feat further frustrated by their youth. Left alone after Cynthia's passing, he must come to terms with his grief so he can carry on and raise their three children.

His poetry and prose create a unique memoir of a widowed man, detailing the long battle with his wife's cancer, his helplessness as she slips away and the void left by her death. As he struggles to find hope, she nudges him toward the arms of another so he may find happiness.
