The Black Patriots Foundation to host 'Salute To Courage'

African Americans in World War II

WASHINGTON, April 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Black Patriots Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., joins the nation in commemorating those who served during World War II with a special recognition program and gala event honoring the distinguished service of African American men and women. Beginning with the death of Crispus Attucks, the first to die during the Boston Massacre, African Americans have given their lives to secure the freedom and liberty we enjoy today. They have provided extraordinary and distinguished service to the nation.

On Saturday, May 29, 2004, the Black Patriots Foundation will host a special program to honor living and deceased African American veterans of World War II followed by a reception with live music from the era. As part of this celebration the Foundation will launch the 'Black Patriots Hall of Honor.' Throughout the day, veterans and their families can place entries in the Black Patriots Hall of Honor from an on-site computer center. The Hall of Honor may be viewed at the Black Patriots website. These events are open, free to the public and will be held at the Reserve Officers' Association of the US, 1 Constitution Ave., NE. in Washington.

Reservations to attend may be made in advance beginning April 15 by calling 202-452-1776. Names will be held at the door for admission. Seating is limited.

Honoring the Veterans

From now through Labor Day, The Black Patriots Foundation's goal is to collect 100,000 names of black veterans from all branches of the military who served during WWII to add to the entries in The Black Patriots Hall of Honor. To accomplish this goal the Foundation is asking any relative, friend, or acquaintance of a WWII veteran to add the name, photograph, and brief information on that person's service record to the Hall of Honor at www.blackpatriots.org. We are also inviting American Legion posts, VFW posts, churches, veterans associations and interest groups, to pay tribute to the memory of black veterans from World War II by adding the names, photos, and service records to the Hall of Honor. Cost is only $30.00 per name. Information may also be mailed to us.
