Scania gets major order from Brazilian bus operator

SODERTALJE, Sweden, April 30, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- JCA Group, Scania's biggest bus customer, continues to show its confidence in Scania. The group has placed an order for 143 buses for delivery before the end of August this year. The vehicles are coaches for long-distance and intercity operations at four of the companies within the group.

"This is one of the biggest bus deals in our history. This sale is significant for Scania, not only because of the large volume, but also because it confirms the strength of our brand within the JCA Group. The determining factor, besides the performance of the vehicles and the aftersales support, was the confidence in Scania's delivery dates," declares Wilson Pereira, director of sales of Scania buses in Brazil.

The vehicles are Scania K94 and K124 fitted with engines of 310, 360 or 420 hp. The majority of the buses will be running on the route Rio de Janeiro-Sao Paulo and the others in the southern and southeastern parts of the country.

JCA Group has some 1,750 Scania buses in its fleet.

Scania is one of the world's leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and marine engines. With 29,100 employees and production facilities in Europe and Latin America, Scania is one of the most profitable companies in its sector. In 2003, sales totalled SEK 50.5 billion and income after financial items was SEK 4.6 billion. Scania products are marketed in about 100 countries worldwide and some 95 percent of Scania's vehicles are sold outside Sweden.
