BALTIMORE, May 6, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced the 23 statewide winners of its second annual Engineering Scholars program, which will provide a total of $230,000 in college scholarships this fall to high school seniors across Maryland interested in studying engineering.
The scholarship program is aimed at supporting promising high school seniors who intend to pursue a career in an engineering-related field. Candidates must plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering curriculum.
"This innovative scholarship is intended to help encourage some of the state's best and brightest students with an interest in science and math to pursue the engineering professions," said Robert P. Iorizzo, president of the company's Electronic Systems sector. "As was the case last year, we continue to be impressed with the high caliber of the applicants from across the state, which makes the final selection process that much more difficult for our scholarship review team."
A committee of Northrop Grumman employees selected the Engineering Scholars winners. To be eligible, scholarship applicants had to be a resident of Maryland and a graduating senior this spring from a public or accredited private high school in the state. Applicants must also have achieved a minimum composite SAT score of 1,100 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 (grades 9-12).
Following are the names of the students from 22 Maryland counties and the city of Baltimore who will be receiving individual merit-based scholarships of $10,000 during an awards reception and dinner being hosted by Northrop Grumman at the Historical Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Md., on May 20:
