Get to Know Greed, Corruption, and Murder in a New Book

GOODYEARS BAR, Calif., May 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Like life itself, the law is never certain. It is this uncertainty that puts lawyers on the line. In Cicero's Progeny, Tony Torson presents a provocative legal thriller telling of greed, power, and corruption in Los Angeles, the city of lights and fine restaurants where people still eat and run. Stuck right in the middle of this story is Nancy Villella, a woman who came up the hard way-junior college, night law school, and a job with the state bar association as an administrator. She speaks of becoming an expert in computer law but plans to crack the state bar's computer security before her true past is discovered.

After the nationally prominent law firm Miller, Oates & Belzer is accused of a myriad of ethics violations, Nancy is caught in an emotional tug-of-war between state bar investigator Phil Talrico, a disbarred attorney, and Terry Belzer, a lawyer who pulls out all stops to defend his firm. Compounding the conflict, Belzer's firm and the state bar are co-trustees of a multimillion-dollar, Tucker Trust, that Michael Calloway, Nancy's boss, is plotting to implicate her in while bleeding millions from. One obstacle Nancy never expected is the Black Ribbon Killer who murdered two women close to the association.

If you want a story that is intelligent and spellbinding, Cicero's Progeny has to be it. From the same author who gave us Fundamental Error and The Devil's Wind, Torson succeeds in creating a richly layered story probing into the bitter realities of the legal profession, and its place in society and the governmental power structure.
