Searching for Hot-Spots in a Wireless World

Mobile Edge Enters Wireless Market with Enhanced WiFi Signal Locator

ANAHEIM, Calif., May 12, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mobile Edge, the premiere designer of innovative and stylish cases for your portable computer, today announced its first accessory product in the Wireless market, with its WiFi Signal Locator (SL). The Mobile Edge WiFi SL will be available at major retail outlets in June 2004 for $29.99.

At half the size of its closest competitor, the Mobile Edge's WiFi SL instantly detects the presence of 802.11b and 802.11g networks within 300 ft, while eliminating false readings caused by interference from 2.4GHz devices such as Bluetooth products, microwave ovens or cordless phones. The WiFi SL displays four LED's or signal bars -- which flash back and forth while scanning and then remain constant once a signal is detected. The strength of the signal is indicated by the number of LED bars that remain lighted. These bars also give the product its directional capabilities allowing the user to locate the direction of the strongest signal.

"The addition of a WiFi Signal Locator to our product offering compliments our core expertise in designing innovative computer cases, while expanding our ability to provide tremendous support for the mobile computing lifestyle," said Geb Masterson, Vice President of marketing for Mobile Edge. "Our WiFi SL easily attaches to a briefcase, keychain or Mobile Edge laptop bag -- perfect for business travelers or individuals who need to quickly locate a WiFi hot spot in public areas such as airports, convention centers, hotels or cafes."

Industry research firm Gartner, Inc. forecasts that the number of hot spot users worldwide will reach 30 million in 2004, up from 9.3 million users in 2003. Further, by the end of 2004, more than 50 percent of professional notebooks will have wireless LAN (WLAN) capability.

Utilizing patent-pending technology from Chrysalis Development LLC, Mobile Edge's WiFi SL will enable mobile users of laptops to locate WiFi hot spots quickly and conveniently, without the hassle of removing their computer from its carrying case and turning it on to detect a signal.

"We're excited to make our WiFi SL widely available through major retail outlets," said David Cartwright, President and CEO of Mobile Edge. "Its unique technical capabilities offer enhanced levels of reliability and accuracy that are virtually unseen in earlier models placed on the market."

Formed in 2002, Mobile Edge was created by a group of senior industry executives with over 75 years of experience in the portable computer accessory and peripheral market. Mobile Edge is expanding the carrying case category by offering new, innovative and fresh designs that fuse fashion trends with form and function, creating a brand that makes a statement about today's business and lifestyle consumers.
