Emulex's InSpeed SOC 320 Honored with AeA's Innovative Technology Product Award

COSTA MESA, Calif., May 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and embedded storage switches, and a leading supplier of intelligent building blocks for next generation storage networking systems, today announced that the AeA (American Electronics Association) bestowed its Innovative Technology Product Award on Emulex's InSpeed SOC 320 at last week's High Tech Council awards ceremony.

The AeA is the nation's largest high-tech trade association. Hosted annually by the AeA Council, the High Tech Awards honor outstanding local technology companies and acknowledge individual contributions to the high-tech business community. Initially introduced in May of 2002, InSpeed technology was the very first technology to bring high performance switching inside storage arrays, enabling new levels of Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) and performance for storage systems.

"Emulex's InSpeed technology has created a new paradigm in high performance storage, and the AeA Innovative Technology Product of the Year Award validates our engineering ingenuity and commitment to delivering world-class storage networking products," said Jim McCluney, Emulex President and Chief Operating Officer. "I'd also like to congratulate the Emulex employees who were instrumental in making the InSpeed technology a success."

"Emulex's InSpeed technology embodies the true spirit of innovation that our organization seeks to acknowledge through its awards program," said Phil Beaudoin, executive director, AeA OC Council. "With its headquarters based in one of the world's great epicenters for IT technology development, this award should be particularly gratifying for Emulex Corporation."

About InSpeed Technology

Emulex's InSpeed embedded storage switches replace the legacy shared loop networks that, for many years, were used to transport stored data in and out of the drives within disk arrays and tape libraries. As drives were added to increase storage capacity, shared loop transport systems saturated -- as data had to pass through each and every drive port in the chain, reducing storage system performance and creating latency issues. In addition, if a problem occurred with a single drive often an entire drive shelf or drive array had to be taken off-line for troubleshooting and repair. InSpeed was the first technology to address these problems. For more information about InSpeed, please visit www.emulex.com.
