ORLANDO, Fla., May 18, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The World Golf League, Inc. (OTCBB:WGFL) announced today that it has completed its first annual World Championship event in Scottsdale, Arizona last week. Twelve four-man teams competed in a Ryder Cup like event for $25,000. Each team played three matches where a total of 16 points could be earned. The first place team totaled 13.5 points and took home the $15,000 first place prize. Second place was won with 13 points and third place with 11 points. Each of those teams earned $7,500 and $2,500 respectively. In addition to the prize money, players were treated to a welcome reception, three rounds of championship golf, media coverage and a first class awards banquet.
"The World Championship event brought a new level of competition to the WGL, where team play was paramount to individual play. The WGL markets a professional golf concept in the USA and 27 international venues, which allow average golfers to play for substantial prize money in local and regional tournaments culminating with a PGA-style national event and world championship.
