Computer Associates Certifies New Emulex LP10000 Family of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters as Interoperable With Brightstor

Emulex LightPulse LP10000 Delivers Substantial Improvements in I/O Performance

COSTA MESA, Calif., May 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and a leading supplier of intelligent building blocks for next generation storage networking systems, today announced that Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE:CA) has certified the Emulex LightPulse(tm) LP10000 and dual channel LP10000DC Fibre Channel HBAs as interoperable with the serverless backup and SAN options of BrightStor ARCserve Backup and BrightStor Enterprise Backup.

The Emulex LightPulse LP10000 family of PCI-X HBAs are fully software compatible with previous generations of Emulex's market leading HBAs, enabling customers to effortlessly migrate to Emulex's new HBAs, while also allowing for simplified integration into existing storage area networks. The LightPulse LP10000 family of HBAs has received the ca smart seal of excellence, which is awarded to solutions that integrate seamlessly with CA products, enabling customers to take advantage of best-in-class enterprise technologies while minimizing cost, time-to-benefit and risk.

"CA customers are demanding storage solutions that deliver high reliability and superior performance while ensuring full compatibility with their existing BrightStor-based storage management systems," said Anders Lofgren, CA's vice president of product management for BrightStor. "Emulex's LP10000 family of Fibre Channel HBAs meets CA's stringent interoperability standards, providing BrightStor users with valuable technology for building the robust, scalable storage environments that businesses require."

"CA continues to deploy the critical solutions designed for protecting and managing the enterprise and information assets," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Emulex. "Emulex will continue to work closely with CA to provide robust storage connectivity and management solutions to help simplify SAN management."

The Emulex LP10000 HBA family has been certified ca smart for the following configurations: the SAN Management and Serverless Backup Options with BrightStor Enterprise Backup, BrightStor ARCserve Backup and BrightStor ARCserve 2000 running Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 platforms; the SAN Management Option with BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare and BrightStor Enterprise Backup for Solaris. In addition, the LP10000 has been tested and appears on the certified device list for BrightStor SAN Manager and BrightStor SAN Designer for Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000.

BrightStor ARCserve Backup and BrightStor Enterprise Backup are designed for the backup and restore of distributed and centralized data center environments, respectively. The serverless backup options leverage SNIA Standard, Extended SCSI Copy command to significantly enhance performance by taking the backup load off servers, and freeing CPU time for mission critical tasks. The SAN option enables administrators to fully exploit advanced Fibre Channel technology and take advantage of dynamic, cross-platform SAN device and media sharing capabilities.

The Emulex LP10000 family of PCI-X HBAs, and previous generations of Emulex HBAs, may leverage its centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware(tm). Emulex's HBAnyware reduces total cost of ownership and planned downtime by enabling sophisticated management capabilities such as remote firmware upgrades from a single console anywhere in a SAN. Visit the Emulex booth #1023 at CA World from May 23-26, 2004 to see a demonstration of its LP10000 HBA.
