EMS Technologies Acquires Tracking Software, Giving SATCOM Division Broader Capabilities and Product Range

OTTAWA, May 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG) is announcing today the acquisition of a suite of fleet tracking software from GEOCOMtms Inc. of Quebec City, Quebec. This universal wireless protocol software provides seamless access to different wireless data networks in the same application, simultaneously. Users are successfully tracking and communicating with their fleets throughout North America, using this tracking software integrated with their dispatch systems.

EMS's PDT-100 packet data terminal, combined with the Tracking Solution from GEOCOMtms, has already been deployed on both small and large fleets throughout North America, for various customers, including SaskTel, Leger, Robert and others.

"EMS Technologies now provides a complete satellite and wireless vehicle tracking and messaging system at a very affordable price," said Jay McMillan, director, sales & marketing -- Land Mobile & Maritime Products. "Our customers have already demonstrated a high degree of confidence in our PDT-100, and we are very pleased to offer this efficient and reliable one-stop shopping application."

The solution consists of the EMS's PDT-100 satellite communication terminal, an in-cab computer terminal, and the GEOCOMtms vehicle tracking and messaging software application running at the customer's data center. Drivers have access to free-form messaging, macros, data-entry forms, and reports that show them, directly from their trucks, precisely which roads to take to the next delivery or pickup without having to stop and phone the dispatcher for directions. It also allows fleet managers to make significant savings on their operational costs by giving them the means to improve their asset management, and to eliminate unnecessary movement of their assets. Fleet managers can upgrade the on-board computer software over-the-air (upgrade of forms for example), saving precious time and installation costs, doing it in a matter of seconds, for the entire fleet.
