We Have Company -- Alien Arrives on Earth to Help Save the Planet from Annihilation in New Novel

CHICAGO, May 21, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- In We Have Company (now available through AuthorHouse), author Robert Tannenbaum explores what might happen if Earth faced annihilation and the discovery of an alien species.

Steve Kelly is a radio talk show host who introduces listeners to Shem, a real space alien. After Shem's prediction about a black hole that is destined to devour Earth proves to be real, the president of the United States executes a campaign to discredit Steve and orders the CIA to kidnap 12 of the world's best scientists.

Steve, in the meantime, attempts to clear his name. He joins forces with Dr. Baron, head of the Klondike National Observatory, and his intern, Ali Abrams, to identify the location of Shem's planet. As they question Shem, they discover that Shem was sent to help save Earth from the black hole's destruction. Shem tells the trio that his species wants to save Earth because they are family. Shem claims that many years ago when his species was faced with extinction they brought humans to Earth from his planet. The government finally joins forces with Steve and his colleagues. They devise a plan to use the alien's spacecraft to attack the path of the space anomaly with nuclear weapons, creating enough turbulence to change the black hole's direction. The government, suspicious that the aliens' ulterior motive may be to attain nuclear weapons, provides Steve and their own weapons expert with the secret code to arm the weapons. If either believes the aliens have ill intent, they are to act accordingly. Fortunately, the mission goes as planned, with the black hole successfully rerouted.

On the way back to Earth, Steve reads an email from Ali and learns that the alien language has been deciphered. The black hole was never headed towards Earth, but actually navigating towards the alien's planet. Now, it has Earth in its sights.

In the end, the president of the United States addresses the world and announces that all nations on Earth have signed a peace treaty, uniting to prove to God that the people and the planet are worth saving. In closing, he asks anyone with ideas to save the planet to email the White House Web site. In a Florida classroom, a teacher conducts a brainstorming session with her class. A child with Down syndrome remembers a passage in the Bible that turns out to be the solution.

Tannebaum was born and raised in Philadelphia and lives in Chicago with Carol, his wife of 38 years. They have two children, Joshua and Jaime.
