WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., May 24, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed Dr. Alexis C. Livanos vice president and general manager of its Space Systems Division. He is currently vice president and general manager of the company's Navigation Systems Division.

These divisions are part of the company's Electronic Systems sector. Dr. Livanos will continue to report to Robert P. Iorizzo, Electronic Systems sector president.
As head of the Space Systems Division, Dr. Livanos will have executive responsibility for all Space Systems business areas at the company's Azusa, Calif., Boulder and Colorado Springs, Colo., and Baltimore, Md., sites, and will continue to have executive responsibility for the Navigation Systems Division, based in Woodland Hills, Calif. He will maintain offices in both Azusa and Woodland Hills.
He assumes leadership of the Azusa facility from Salvatore M. Romano, who has been appointed vice president and program manager of the Space-Based Infrared System Program for Northrop Grumman.
Dr. Livanos will also be responsible for Electronic Systems subsidiaries and sites located in Toronto and Halifax, Canada; Freiburg and Heidelberg, Germany; Pomezia, Italy; Canton, Mass., and Salt Lake City.
Dr. Livanos has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of advanced communications systems, technology and technology insertions, hardware design, and satellite manufacturing and production. He has supported more than 50 commercial satellite programs, launches and satellite missions as well as military and classified space programs.
He participated in successful mission rescues, and worked extensively in on-orbit anomaly resolution issues -- developing solutions that returned satellites to mission readiness. He was a key interface for the satellite industry and has participated on numerous panels and teams for non-advocate reviews making recommendations to spacecraft insurers and the government.
He served as deputy general manager for the former TRW Space and Electronics Group and later as executive vice president of operations for Space Systems/Loral. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Dr. Livanos served as executive vice president of Boeing Satellite Systems, where he was responsible for technology, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain management and strategic relationships and ventures.
Dr. Livanos joined Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector in 2003 as vice president, program operations, overseeing all development programs at Navigation Systems Division in the areas of business strategy, business development and overall program execution. He was appointed vice president and general manager of Navigation Systems in September 2003.
He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master's degree in engineering science and a Ph.D. in engineering science and physics from the California Institute of Technology, where he subsequently taught applied physics for two years.
Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Division provides spaceborne payload and processing systems in support of missile defense, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, weather and environmental applications.
The company's Navigation Systems Division supplies navigation and positioning systems for space and high value platform products, navigation-grade and tactical-grade inertial systems, fiber optic gyro systems designed to customer requirements, and situational awareness products for international and domestic defense and commercial markets.
