Make Me an Offer -- Woman Conquers Gritty Realities of New York City's Real Estate World in New Novel

GREENWICH, Conn., May 24, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- When personal tragedy abruptly severs a beautiful, young woman from her sheltered Palm Beach, Fla. upbringing, she becomes a powerful force -- able to negotiate a high-profile career, marriage and a child and painful memories all on her own. In Jessica Dee Rohm's new book, Make Me an Offer (now available through AuthorHouse), a modern-day heroine forces readers to redefine their images of women.

Frustrated by the current portrayals of women in fiction, Rohm says she aims to depict her heroines "as the multi-talented, complicated, multi-dimensional human beings I know and count among my friends."

With a child she loves, a boss she hates, an ex-husband who surprises her with an inconceivable secret, Camilla Madison is determined to find happiness on her terms. Working for Marry Well magazine, Camilla and her boss, Alyson Strong, deal with their lives' early traumas differently. Camilla, resilient and receptive, tries to find herself amid the choices and events she encounters along the way. Alyson, aggressive and brilliant, uses her ingenuity to take whatever she can get.

When Camilla's entrepreneurial spirit propels her into the fast-paced world of New York residential real estate, she finally garners the strength to confront her demons, return to her roots and decide what she wants out of life. "Camilla and Alyson dominate their worlds and save their men, rather than the other way around," says Rohm. "Yet, they love, hate, suffer, and doubt themselves just like the rest of us."

A funny, touching and ruthless story set against the backdrop of the glamorous real estate and publishing worlds of New York and Palm Beach, Make Me An Offer is a mesmerizing, entertaining novel that leaves its readers convinced that it is not what life dishes out but how one deals with it that counts.

Rohm holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and is currently working on a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. A former intern for The New York Times, she started a public relations agency at the age of 21 and sold it to the largest independent advertising agency in the United States when she was 30. She also started and ran a real estate firm serving foreign investors. She currently is the vice president of communications for Thomson Learning, headquartered in Stamford, Conn. Make Me An Offer is her first book. Her next book Love Lessons is expected out within the year. She lives with her husband, two children and numerous pets in Greenwich, Conn.
