Emulex Teams with EMC to Deliver Simple Storage Solutions to SMBs

Emulex LP101 Host Bus Adapter Qualified by EMC as E-Lab Tested to Provide Simple and Reliable Fibre Channel Connectivity for New CLARiiON AX100

COSTA MESA, Calif., May 26, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters and a provider of intelligent building blocks for the storage networking industry, today announced that EMC has qualified the Emulex LP101 Fibre Channel HBA as E-Lab Tested for use with the new EMC CLARiiON AX100 networked storage system targeting small- to medium-sized business (SMB) customers. The Emulex LP101 combined with the CLARiiON AX100 networked storage system delivers an easy-to-use, customer installable and maintainable storage solution for end users requiring the benefits of scalable, consolidated storage.

"The Emulex LP101 HBA, coupled with the EMC CLARiiON AX100, successfully delivers a Fibre Channel storage solution that provides SMB users with a simple and seamless out-of-box experience," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "Designed specifically for SMB organizations deploying entry-level servers and storage arrays, such as the CLARiiON AX100, the Emulex LP101 ensures a quick and easy installation process with a few simple clicks of the mouse."

Emulex's new "AutoPilot-Installer" utility walks LP101 users through the HBA installation using a simple, step-by-step automated process, fully eliminating the need for identification of HBA driver revisions, parameter settings and other complex configuration schemes that are optimized for enterprise-class environments. In addition, Emulex's "AutoPilot-Manager" gives SMB users a highly intuitive configuration and management tool tailored specifically for their needs, ensuring an efficient and user-friendly experience.

"EMC and Emulex have a longstanding relationship based on delivering robust storage networking solutions to both the enterprise and midrange sectors of the market, and we are pleased to expand our efforts with Emulex into the SMB space," said Chuck Hollis, EMC's vice president of platforms marketing. "The Emulex LP101 helps EMC deliver on the promise of easily installable and maintainable solutions that provide a simple and affordable SAN experience."

The Emulex LP101 Fibre Channel host bus adapter ensures that SMB customers have access to industry-leading connectivity coupled with its specially designed AutoPilot software for simplified SAN installation and maintenance. Customers utilizing the Emulex LP101 for SMB SAN connectivity benefit from a robust and flexible HBA design, which provides firmware upgradeability and driver compatibility across all HBA generations. The LP101 enables SMB users to enjoy the world-class features and functionality that have made Emulex the HBA market share leader.

The Emulex LP101 is qualified for connectivity from the CLARiiON AX100 to volume server systems running Windows or Linux. Additionally, EMC has qualified the Emulex LP982 HBA for SMB users requiring the features and functionality associated with midrange applications running Windows and Linux. Both the Emulex LP101 and LP982 HBAs are available through authorized EMC distribution partners, including Avnet, Arrow, Azlan, Bell Microproducts, Bell Europe, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, Samsung and TechData.

Emulex LP101 HBA for SMB SANs

The Emulex LP101 HBA enables small and medium-sized businesses to enjoy the same benefits of SANs that larger enterprise data centers have realized for years. Ideally suited for small, low-cost SANs, the Emulex LP101 is being offered to its OEM partners for integration into pre-configured, bundled OEM storage solutions tailored specifically for SMB requirements. With fewer IT resources and, often times, little or no Fibre Channel experience, SMB organizations require SAN solutions that are easy to install, configure, and manage. By reducing the cost and complexity associated with traditional solutions, SMB users now have a low-risk entry point to field-proven Fibre Channel SAN technology from an industry leader, and a higher performance alternative to CPU-intensive iSCSI-based technologies. Emulex's LightPulse(tm) LP101 host bus adapter addresses end user needs by establishing new benchmarks for ease-of-use and simplified installation at unmatched price points.
