MSV Canada Endorses Industry Canada's New Policy Allowing ATO to be Offered as Part of MSS

WASHINGTON and OTTAWA, May 27, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Mobile Satellite Ventures (Canada) Inc. voiced its strong support today of Industry Canada's new spectrum and licensing policy that clears the way for mobile satellite service (MSS) providers to offer an ancillary terrestrial component ("ATC") as part of their mobile satellite services in Canada.

Calling the Canadian regulatory decision "leading-edge," MSV applauded the new policy, announced on May 22, which provides for the more efficient reuse of MSS spectrum.

"This decision will benefit all consumers of wireless service by making wireless communications accessible to all Canadians," said Robert Power, vice president, Regulatory Matters for Mobile Satellite Ventures (Canada) Inc. "This new licensing policy will not only allow MSS operators to reuse their spectrum through base stations, but also it will lead to improved signal quality and coverage."

Power added that the decision provides MSV with "the technological flexibility to implement our vision for a robust, next-generation wireless satellite/terrestrial network." "The concept of ATC is catching on and Canada is on the leading edge of adopting this concept," he concluded.
