I'm Gonna Make Them Love You -- New Novel Explores Man's Motown Dreams

DERBY, England, June 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) --- Just about everyone has a lifelong dream. For George Reynolds that dream is to work for Motown Records, an aspiration that takes him across the Atlantic, from England to America, in the new book, I'm Gonna Make Them Love You! (now available through AuthorHouse), by Wayne G. Edwards.

In 1959, George, a jazz musician, is blown away by a single from a new Detroit record company, and as the years pass, he dreams of working for that very same company. He gets no support from his wife, Cynthia, who is bored and tired of her domesticated lifestyle; nor from one of his best friends, an athlete with fashion industry dreams. However, five years later, he sets sail to make it big in the American music business.

When George arrives in the U.S., he is surprised to find that Motown Records is based out of a house. He returns to London to build his own record company, Right-Track Records. It does not come easy, and in the process he loses his wife to his other best friend, Ronnie Gould, who had dishonorable intentions all along.

George struggles to run his company and raise his three very different children on his own. As he is drawn deeper into the music business, he signs his own "Supremes" and achieves success. The novel follows him through the years as dreams take off and crash. George suppresses heartache and the nagging feelings of failure, but always has time to dream. Then along comes Patricia Sherringham, a woman who shows him that dreams just might come true.

Edwards tells a story of determination, sacrifice and love. I'm Gonna Make Them Love You! is an insightful read about broken dreams on the streets of success.

"I have always loved Motown music, so that has become the backbone to my novel . . . I guess you could say I've written my very own version of a Motown song," Edwards says.

Born in West Midlands, England, Edwards grew up listening to the sounds of Motown. He wrote his first story, "To Be Somebody," at 16. Heavily influenced by his favorite music, the story was expanded 13 years later. Then, in 2003, his partner was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He turned the story into I'm Gonna Make Them Love You!, his first novel, in order to "escape the madness" of dealing with the stress of the disease. His partner eventually recovered, and they currently live in Derby, England.
