Yoga for Pets -- First Lady of Yoga for Pets Introduces Poses and Exercise for Animals

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., June 10, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Humans are not the only beings who can benefit from yoga. In her new book Yoga for Pets (now available through AuthorHouse) yoga aficionado Jean Farrar offers unique methods for helping pets elevate their consciousness and connect to the energy of the universe.

During her diverse career, Farrar has worked with many celebrities, including Jimmy Durante, Albert Einstein, Groucho Marx, Elvis Presley and Howard Hughes. After her mentor, Bernarr Macfadden, passed away, Farrar opened her own ashram, or yoga center, at the old Desert Inn in Palm Springs, Calif. Her contacts with notable celebrities coupled with her own notoriety as Miss Palm Springs and the Western Week and Desert Circus Queen to further the success of her business.

Having helped people implement yoga into their own lives, Farrar adapted her techniques for use by animals. Just as humans look to a higher power for guidance, pets look to their masters. They are intensely emotional beings, as are humans, so the environment and attitude of their owners significantly impacts them, Farrar says.

By engaging one's pet in relaxing yoga postures, owners can supercharge pets' consciousness by infusing it with "prana", or life force energy. From the Doggie Half Lotus position to the Birdie's Shoulder Stand, Farrar's poses and techniques involve positive reinforcement and loving interaction. Complete with photos and even appearances by Benji the dog, Yoga for Pets is a captivating guide to this new and effective pet exercise regimen.

Nearly any domesticated animal has the potential to feel more connected to the creator of the universe, Farrar writes, and by building psychic rapport and training pets to hold yoga poses, animals can reach a higher state of consciousness.

Throughout her career, Farrar has taught yoga for the city of Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley Recreation Department, the Palm Springs High school, the College of the Desert, the Braille Institute, the Handicapped and Mentally Retarded Foundation of the Desert, and the Los Angeles Angels baseball team during spring training in Palm Springs. Farrar has been a lecturer and private instructor for the Betty Ford Alcoholics Awareness Program and the Drug Abuse Program at Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She is currently working on her next book, which will relate a number of humorous vignettes about some of the celebrities who have been her students and friends.
